Hippocampal and Cortical Dynamics across Learning and Developmental sleep
Charlotte Boccara

Résumé : Sleep is one of the most ubiquitous yet mysterious need. While there are many debates as to why we need to sleep, two consensuses are emerging: (i) it is most important during development and (ii) it is important for memory consolidation. Our team at the Norwegian Centre of Molecular Bioscience and Medicine (NCMBM) in Oslo is working on both these aspects. I will present our latest results on (i) how sleep macro- and micro-architecture mature across brain development in rodent pups and (ii) evidence as to the role of sleep in learning/memory consolidation processes in adults, focusing on cortico-hippocampal dynamics.
