Friday, June the 15th, 2012, Constance Hammond will receive the title of “Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur” from Jean-Paul de Gaudemar, former Rector of the Aix-Marseille. The highest honor will be given to Constance in tribute to her involvement in the field of science communication to young people. In 2004, she founded the association “Tous chercheurs” whose courses allow high school students to enter, for a few days in the skin of researchers. The actions of Constance and her team are especially inner city youth, for whom access to the world of scientific research is too often unrealistic.

More than a laboratories’ desacration or against an inconsiderate amount of scientific information, Constance Hammond wants to put science at the heart of democracy by learning about the scientific approach to a wide audience: “We are campaigning for a science education by experimentation and debate and to know how science is currently practiced in basic research laboratories. Our aim is that citizens of all ages can make the difference between scientific fact and opinion and argue their positions. “
