A neuronal circuit for antipsychotic treatments

Résumé
One percent of the world population will experience psychosis during their lifetime. For some, this becomes a lifelong inability to distinguish external sensory input from internal models of the world. We understand this breakdown poorly, and it shows in the way we currently treat it. Antipsychotic interventions range from D2 antagonists to magnetic stimulation and electrically induced « seizures ». A promising way forward is to understand whether, and how, all these treatments converge on a downstream neuronal circuit to produce treatment-relevant effects. To that end, I will present ongoing work from our lab to characterize the shared signature of antipsychotic treatments in mouse cortex, focusing on recent findings on the neuronal response to electroconvulsive stimulation and the cell-type specific effects of clozapine.
