GABAergic Medial Septal Projections to the Hippocampal Formation and their role in Epilepsy
GABAergic neurons from the medial septum specifically target GABAergic cells throughout the hippocampal formation and consequently have a powerful influence over hippocampal oscillatory rhythms. I will present previous work demonstrating the specific connectivity of septal GABAergic cells in the medial entorhinal cortex, an integral part of the hippocampal formation. Furthermore, I will talk about ongoing studies on the role of GABAergic septal projections cells in rodent models of temporal lobe epilepsy.
